Nestled between the larger North Shore communities of Beverly and Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea is a picturesque New England coastal village.  With a topography that naturally protects our harbor from the infamous "Nor'easter" storms, Manchester-by-the-Sea provides a safe haven for those boaters seeking refuge.

Combined with the rugged beauty of its shores and harbor, Manchester-by-the-Sea provides a permanent anchorage for approximately 1,000 vessels while playing host to area boaters as well as worldwide sailors.  As is often the case, the very features of the harbor, which contribute to its attractiveness, also create safety concerns for the community.  The Harbor Division of the Police Department is charged with the responsibility to ensure compliance with safe boating "rules-of-the road" while enforcing existing statutes and by-laws, all for the safety of those using the harbor.

For its visitors, Manchester-by-the-Sea harbor offers a shallow channel waterway providing limited access to all but larger vessels wishing to visit our port.  The community maintains four docking facilities that provide for public tie-up with a strictly enforced one-hour limit and a 45' maximum length restriction.  The United States Coast Guard maintains the aids to navigation clearly marking the channel and entrance.  Services provided by private marinas, including "pump-out", fuel, supplies, and hoisting capabilities, complement those services provided by the Town.

We welcome you as safe boaters to our snug harbor.
